New York City-based DJ/producer Nickodemus made a name for himself as the resident DJ of the long-running @TurntablesOnTheHudson club night, and he also released numerous productions over the years, most notably the full-length albums Endangered Species (2006), Sun People (2009) & Moon People (2012). In addition, he has remixed a wide variety of artists such as Bob Marley, Nina Simone, Billy Holiday, Thievery Corporation, Mr Scruff, Quantic, The Pimps of Joytime, Balkan Beat Box & Natasha Atlas to name a few. He is currently working on his 4th solo album on his homegrown WONDERWHEEL Recordings @wonderwheel-recordings for release in 2015.
Born in the Bronx, he grew in Queens & Long Island, and was turned on to music at a young age thanks to his family, which played lots of music in the house, namely Motown, disco, African and Latin music. In the late '80s he grew interested in hip-hop, regularly tuning into the radio shows of DJ's Red Alert (98.7) & Marley Marl (107.5) on weekend nights. In 1990 he began DJing, inspired by the likes of Kid Capri and David Morales who he was able to go see when his older sister brought him to clubs like the Red Zone & others where she worked. His 1st residencies were the Giant Step & Organic Groove parties from 1996-2000. In 1998, he alongside Mariano & Nappy G, founded Turntables on the Hudson, a weekly club night at Chelsea Piers on the west side of Manhattan abutting the Hudson River. The club night proved popular and spawned events on the Nile (Cairo), the Caribbean (Tulum), las Ramblas (Barcelona) & more until today.
