FOSSICK PROJECT
is a duo formed by artist Cecilia Valagussa and singer-songwriter Marta Del Grandi. Their collaboration started in 2016 when the two artists were living in Belgium and led them to perform in Italy, Belgium, France, India, Nepal and Thailand. Initially conceived as a setup for improv performances, the concept evolved with storytelling as a central element: inspired by nature and the animal world, they decided to focus on the theme of endangered animals and to write their shows while visiting the habitat of the species they choose as protagonists.Their live act consists of Cecilia’s analog animation on the overhead projector, on which she manually moves puppets drawn on scraps of colored film sheets and other materials such as sand, water and small objects. Marta writes songs and instrumental pieces that combine singing with melodies, electronic sounds and samples; she performs with vocals, guitar, keys and electronics. The duo has produced three shows so far, “Long Tong Tales” (2018) written in Nepal and about the pangolin, “The Great Giant Leap” (2019) written in India and about the great Indian bustard, and “Fire Charmers” (2020) written in Italy, with a yellow-bellied toad as protagonist. In 2020 they produced their first original film titled “Wild Card”, a music and analog animation 20 min short on the theme of wildlife trafficking and the pandemic, with protagonists a pangolin couple. For this project, the duo had the opportunity to collaborate with the Trip-Hop music producer Howie B (Bjork, Massive Attack, U2…).
Cecilia Valagussa is an Italian multidisciplinary artist mainly working with comics, illustration, video and performance. Born in Lecco, she studied Fine Arts in Milan, then Comics and illustration in Belgium where she lived for 5 years. From 2009 until 2013 she worked in Collettivo F84, a six-artists group focusing on interactive Public Art projects. Some of her comics appeared on international magazines such as VICE US, Stripburger, Kutikuti, Vite, B comics. She is the author of three graphic novels: Les errances du Vaurien (Obriart éditions, FR), P.I.G.S. (VOStripgilde Uitgeverij, BE) and ColoreInferno (written by Ariel Macchi, Ifix Edizioni, IT). She is currently working on her upcoming book which will come out in 2021.
Marta del Grandi is an Italian singer, songwriter and musician. Born and raised in the province of Milan, in 2012 she moved to Ghent, Belgium, to continue her studies. During her final year of Conservatory she began writing songs and founded her first band Marta Rosa. In 2016 she released the album Invertebrates. She presented the record in Italy, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. Later she moved to China for a short period and then to Nepal, where she spent two and a half years. A lucky encounter in 2019 gave her the chance to meet Irish singer-songwriter Damien Rice, open his shows in India and Nepal and play alongside with him. This meeting was a big encouragement to start working on her second album, currently in the making.
